Hiring entry-level workers is one of the best things a company can do, says Dr. Catherine Connelly, a new Canada Research Chair in organizational behavior.
“We have seen a shift away from that. Companies try to hire people mid-career or as consultants. Instead, let them learn on the job and work their way up,” Connelly. “That way, you end up with people with deep knowledge about the organization, who are committed and know what needs to be done.”
